Firstly,
I'm by no means a professional LoL player, I do not play in big tournaments, I'm not a part of a clan/guild that competes and I still only have a base knowledge of this game.
But, with that said I do believe I have a lot of knowledge in what works well for the Champion Tristana and this is my guide that will help people try her and be able to use her well right off the bat. Or you`ll know what to expect when facing her.
Items covered:
1. Abilities
2. Summoner Spells
3. Mastery Points
4. Runes
5. Game Play (solo/laning)
6. Item Builds
7. Playing notes
8. Champions Vs Tristana
1.) Let's start with her abilities..
Draw a Bead - Increases Tristana's attack range as she levels.
Rapid Fire - Tristana fires her weapon rapidly, increasing her attack speed for a short time.
Increases Tristana's attack speed by 30/45/60/75/90% for 7 seconds.
Rocket Jump - Tristana fires at the ground to propel herself to a distant location, dealing damage and slowing surrounding units for 3 seconds where she lands.
Tristana fires at the ground to propel herself to target location, dealing 70/115/160/205/250 (+0.8) magic damage and slowing surrounding units by 60% for 2.5 seconds when she lands.
On a champion kill or assist, Rocket Jump's cooldown resets.
Explosive Shot - When Tristana kills a unit, her cannonballs burst into shrapnel, dealing damage to surrounding enemies. Can be activated to deal damage to target unit over time, and reduce healing received.
Passive: Enemies explode when slain by Tristana's attacks, dealing 50/75/100/125/150 magic damage to nearby enemies.
Active: Explosive Shot rends target enemy, reducing healing and health regeneration by 50% and dealing 25 (+0.1) Magic Damage per second.
Lasts 4/5/6/7/8 seconds.
Buster Shot- Tristana loads a massive cannonball into her weapon and fires it at an enemy unit. This deals magic damage and knocks the target back.
Tristana fires a massive cannonball at an enemy unit. This deals 300/400/500 (+1.5) magic damage and knocks surrounding units back 600/800/1000 distance.
* As you can see she has a lot of different abilities at her arsenal, An aoe slow, knock back/Snipe Shot, DoTs, small AoE dmg after minon kills, rapid fire, and end game range only matched or surpassed by a very few.
2.) Next on my list of things to cover Summoner spells
All of these spells I have read in other guides and there is a lot to be said about the benefits of teleport, flash, healing, exhaust and cleanse all spells that will benefit Tristana a great deal.
But with out going into those benefits Ill only go through the ones I use, which are;
- Ignite: 50 dmg + 25 dmg per lvl over 5 secs reducing healing and ignoring magic resist items.
- Clarity: restores 100 + 25 x mana left in your mana pool
First Clarity, I get a lot of slack for using this spell but before you knock it try it out and then let me know. I like to use her abilities a lot, even if is just to clean up some minions or farming creeps in the jungle or harassing players with explosive shot and setting them up for a kill at lvl 6, clarity avoids those trips back to base to replenish your mana pools and keeps you farming and lvling faster then your opponent which in the end is the key to carrying with Trist.
Ignite, is what I call the balance changer or the icing on the cake. What I do is jump in to a fight (1 on 1) so I get my slow then I use ignite right at the start topped off with explosive shot which gives me two DoTs on the enemy plus the explosive shot will reduce healing of the target, then use Rapid fire and/or Buster shot to finish off the enemy.
Later once I get my R skill I will use it last just as I get the enemy close enough to where I think they`re done, I`ll tap them with ignite and explosive shot and then buster shot them away, keeping me outta reach and harms way while my spells slowly finish him off.
3.) Mastery Points
I`m not going to explain why I have what I have seems pretty self explanatory, But here is what I have as a build;
28 Offense
0 Defense
2 Utility
4.) Runes
Now this is an area where I am still expirementing I have gathered a ton of runes most in the Crit% and Crit Dmg department, but I also have collect ability power runes as well and I am thinking of trying a build that includes armor penatration!
Currently I am using
Quintessence Maxed out in Crit Dmg
Mark Maxed out in Crit Dmg
Seal Maxed out in Crit Dmg
Glyphs Maxed out in Crit Dmg
The totals come out to + 45 to Crit dmg. I like having the extra crit dmg as I build items having both crit% and damage. I use to have Glyphs maxed with ability power which I had for a slight increase in my Rocket Jump the effectiveness but they nerfed Crit Dmg Runes so I wanted to keep it at +45 in order to do that I had to max it out in Glyphs as well.
I am also currently trying a build that will have Amour Pen maxed out, with a mix of either crit dmg, crit % or attack speed. Results will be posted later.
6.) Item Builds This is a basic build not including game changing builds that would alter how I buy ie. buying exacutioners calling for healers or magic resistence for other Chars.
I get a lot of slack for the way I build Trist's items so beware you may as well. I'll guide you with a discussion and then list in order the items I buy.
I always start a match with Vampric Scepter, it's life steal is enough to sustain me through levels 1 - 6
I will usually have a kill by lvl 6 (provided I am solo mid) which then I would blue pill back to buy my Berserker Grieves and brawlers gloves which I’d turn immediately into an Avarice Blade which gives me some Crit% while earning some extra gold through the early lvls.
Now the Vempric Scepter is my turning point in how I build and will usually in two directions, first I might build Stark’s Fervor, which will provide life steal that will complement your entire team. Second I might build an Executioners Calling which will reduce healing to the target, great for healers.
Next on the build will be BF Sword, Cloak of agility and then the Pick Axe to build the Infinity Edge.
After this I would build the Phantom Dancer, Black Cleaver and/or then the Frozen Mallet.
End game I will have the following
1. Beserker Grieves
2. Infinity Edge
3. Phantom Dancer
4. Black Cleaver
5. Frozen Mallot
6. Stark’s Fervor or Executioners Calling
* By this time I would have sold back the Avarice blade as it has out lasted its usefulness and the next item will be determined by the type of game that you're currently in.
7.)Playing Notes
I play Tristana fairly well and a lot of that has to do with patience knowing that she is killer end game it is important you're able to stay out and farm money for items, the quicker you level the more effective a team member you are.
It's better to be level 10 with Zero kills and no deaths then to be level 10 with Zero kills and 8 deaths or even 2 deaths. Starving, as I call it, the other player when you're and end game char is a strategy on its own.
To help you earn money faster you can always sneak away from your lane and help the bottom or top lanes in setting up a gank, assists are valuable as well.
To start games I'll get explosive shot skill first, which will help you farm the creeps as well has harass your counter parts. I’ll then get rapid fire followed by one rocket Jump more for escaping possible ganks at mid.
I would then pick explosive shot every time until lvl 6 at which point is when you get your buster shot, then I will alternate between rapid fire and explosive shot only choosing Buster shot when it comes available or when it forces you to select Rocket Jump.
Remember Rocket Jump is great for escaping or re positioning in a team fight there have been many times where I’ll use it to get out of the way in a team fight and survive long enough to wipe the entire team yet their hell bent on targeting you first. examples are jumping over a tree line or walls around your base as your shots will still hit them through it as long as you have sight with your team there, or jumping up on to or down to different level in the ground ie water surrounding mid.
8. Champions Vs Tristana
Here I'll list a few champions that Tristana will face more often than not. I'll cover what I've learned over the last 6 months of playing this game when facing these potential deadly foes.
1. Ashe, With Trist you're going to face Ashe the most, espicially at mid. The one this that is particularly annoying is her range early game is better than trist and her frost arrows.
I find you'll run into two types of ashes, 1. cocky and over zelius (which I love) and 2. tenative there for looks really. I dominate Ashe's like it's nobody's buisness.
2. Sivre, Another solo mid foe who will early game out range Trist and probably out push her as well. But, easier to counter then Ashe. The trick when laning against her is timing, find that grove where you can dodge her bigger boomerang toss and avoiding her sheild when landing an exploiding shot.
Other's to watch for at mid; Karthus, Morgana, Pirate, Soraka, More to come as this section is under works.
Tristana is squishy yes, but one thing is for certain she is unmatched as a ranged carry.
More to come as I continue to update this.
